JOHANNESBURG – South Africa has registered 3,105 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of cases nationally to 762,763.
This is the first time since August 21 when the daily increase in coronavirus infections surpassed the 3,000 mark.
Health officials in the country have sounded the alarm about a possible resurgence of cases, fearing that the growing pandemic in the Eastern Cape could have a ripple effect across the country.
The province concentrates more than half of the new registered cases.
Meanwhile, 88 more people have succumbed to the virus in the last day, bringing the total number of fatalities to 20,759.
