Antoine Griezmann should have known that life at Barcelona is “Messi, Messi, Messi”, says Paulo Futre, with an Atlético de Madrid icon questioning why a Frenchman who was “God” in the Spanish capital headed to the Camp Nou .
A long saga of La Liga transfers came to an end in the summer of 2019 when a World Cup winner traded his life in the capital for that of Catalunya.
It was considered a great blow for Barça, given their exploits at Atlético and France.
However, Griezmann has struggled to live up to expectations since completing a big money move and continues to face questions about his form and future.

Operating in the shadow of Lionel Messi is doing little to help his cause, and the 29-year-old is said to endure a strained relationship with his patron talisman.
Futre believes that a wrong decision was made in his career by leaving Atlético, as Griezmann will never get the credit he deserves at Barça as long as there is a six-time Ballon d’Or.
“I understand Griezmann’s play because he was trying to win the Champions League with Barça,” said Futre. Catalonia Radio.
“I think he left to win a lot more, he must have thought it was more likely.
“But we all know that at Barça first there is Messi, Messi, Messi … 50 Messis. After [Luis] Suarez, [Gerard] Piqué and Griezmann were fourth or fifth [last season].
“If Barça win the Champions League, the covers of the newspapers will always be Messi.
“If Griezmann hadn’t left Atlético, he would have been a legend, more than me. But he knew this would happen, that he would have trouble adjusting. At Atlético, Greizmann was God. At Barça he can be a duke or count ”.
Messi has grown weary of the questions he faces when it comes to Griezmann and other supposedly underperforming stars in Barcelona.
He has never spoken out against any of his teammates, and his former colleague Ivan Rakitic said rumors of breakups at the Camp Nou are out of place.
He said The Ball: “What I saw was that they got along very well. I got along wonderfully with Antoine and Leo. The two drink mate together and spend a lot of time together in the dressing room.
“If they both start scoring goals, there will be no more talk, that is the requirement and the expectation of a great team like Barcelona. However, I don’t worry because they are two spectacular guys. I wish you the best.”
While there may be no division between Messi and Griezmann, the latter needs to find a spark somewhere after recording just 17 goals in 57 appearances for Barca.
