Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that a second The South African player on the 24-man Proteas team tested positive for coronavirus.

In a press release on Friday, CSA revealed that a player tested positive after a mandatory second round of Covid-19 testing on Thursday.

The Proteas face England behind closed doors in three T20s and three ODIs at Newlands and Boland Park.

The player is isolated from the rest of the team and has been transferred to “separate and appropriate accommodation with immediate effect”.

CSA medical and support staff will monitor the player’s physical health and mental well-being.

CSA confirmed that the positive test result of the second player “is not related to the first one announced earlier this week.”

The total number of isolated players is now four.

CSA reiterated that they will not release the names of the affected players due to “Dr.-patient confidentiality.”

CSA stated that they are in “close communication with their counterparts at the England Cricket Board (ECB) to ensure full transparency and the most responsible plan of action going forward.”

Meanwhile, the ECB confirmed that they retested the equipment and all tested negative.

“Our plans are continuing and the team is preparing to play our first inter-team preparation match as usual in Newlands tomorrow,” said an ECB spokesman.

The positive case effectively canceled the practice match between Proteas squads that was scheduled for Saturday, November 21.

Cricketers Marco Marais and Stefan Tait, who were called to the camp to help the team in their preparation match, were released and will no longer join the team.
