‘We cannot take responsibility or apologize’

“There is no regret in that sense. I think people sometimes don’t understand how negotiations with players happen, ”he replied.

“And there are them in politics in all countries and everywhere. And I want to say that this was a unique situation where we even appealed.

“I mean, if it had been a mistake we wouldn’t have even gone to appeal. We would have realized that even much earlier.

“We follow the processes when we start signing players. So we follow all the processes. “Unfortunately, the politics behind the story of this with Dax, I could sit here and debate all day with people, it was that political.

“And for us, we were in a situation where we decided, ‘You know what, we’re going to bite the bullet. We still have the club, we still have the players. Let’s work with what we have.

“It could be a blessing for some of those players who didn’t even get a chance to raise their hands last season.

“… But the issue of Caf is political, my brother, it is very political. To a point where as a club we have decided to move on and move on. And look at our challenges ‚and regroup‚ and work with the team that we respect that has done well for us ‚and move on.

“There is no regret.”

Motaung was asked if, when he referred to Caf’s politics, he was referring to Ahmad.

“The president of the Café‚ and the [football] president of the Madagascar association [Arno Steenkist]‚Who owns the Dax team club? [Fosa Juniors] at the time they were in an amateur league, ”he said.

Motaung said he is not personally responsible for the matter.

“How would you take responsibility? It is a collective responsibility, ”he said.

“We serve as a collective, we work as a collective. We have never won a cup or a league and I say ‘I won the league’.

“It is a collective. The club worked as a collective to combat this case. So I take responsibility for anything that happens at Chiefs because I am the manager. But it is a collective.

“I will sit here and answer you and tell you: we were not wrong, there was nothing wrong we did.

“I’ve been doing this player-signing thing for years. It’s not about cutting and pasting when you walk into a store, buy food, and go out. “

The Motaung was told that some fans believe that he, or the club, owes them an apology for the transfer ban situation.

“No, we cannot be responsible nor do we owe an apology. I mean it’s part of the business, ”he said.

“We have signed players before, we have lost players before, every year. I mean it has been going on for years.

“The only challenge we are facing now is that a ban came up, and this is the first time we have faced this type of ban.

“But this challenge has been football. If we apologize now, it means that you can no longer sign players in football. Because there is this challenge that still continues in the future ”.

The Chiefs, after a rocky start to 2020-21 with new coach Gavin Hunt, will face the Lamtonville Golden Arrows in Saturday’s DStv Premiership game at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, Durban.
