Cape Town – All eyes will be on Brackenfell High School this morning as EFF protesters march through the area in a show of force after their previous protest against alleged racism at the school turned into chaos and violence.
Classes at the school will continue as normal, but the exams have been canceled for today.
The school’s governing body said the school would follow the direction of the Western Cape Education Department and had only made the exception to change its testing schedule.
President Guillaume Smith said that while they would have preferred not to postpone exams, they did so in an effort to protect and safeguard students, who would not have been able to focus.
“The school is not in any way malicious or has bad intentions towards anyone. Our priority has always been the well-being of all of our students. While the situation we find ourselves in is an unfortunate emotional situation, we are grateful that our students and staff have handled it well.
“We kindly ask everyone to consider that no problem can be solved by shouting profanity and being violent,” Smith said.
Despite calls for residents to refrain from attending the protest, The Cape Party has asked residents to come forward in their numbers against the EFF today.

Freedom Front Plus Chief Whip and Provincial Leader Corne Mulder also condemned the EFF’s move to continue its protest this morning, saying the EFF-planned protest demonstrated a complete lack of respect for the constitutional rights of respectful citizens of the law they don’t want to be associated with.
“It is alarming that the EFF has already threatened through an official party tweet with ‘stop Brackenfell’ and ‘make sure nothing works’ and that they will take action against anyone who stands in their way.
“The FF Plus will monitor the situation to see if the police will enforce the court order. If more than a hundred people show up to protest, the police must ensure that the protest action does not take place.
“The confrontation is exactly what they want. Without it, they are deflated. The FF Plus will make sure the court order is followed and will file complaints if it is not, ”Mulder said.
