PS5 is already getting beautiful custom paint jobs

A week after launch in some parts of the world, new PS5 owners are doing beautiful things with their new consoles and controllers, with custom paint jobs popping up online.

The removable white plates on the PS5 lend themselves well to customization, with one of the most popular recent posts on r / PS5 from Hawkijustin, who used Plastidip (a rubber coating often used for car paint jobs) To turn the shiny white sails of the PS5 into a majestic matte black:

In the most outlandish end of things Craayons custom-painted an orange and white design, topped with a skull and PlayStation logo motif (and you can watch a video of the full design on Reddit):

Untitled-1Inspired by YouTuber Dave2D, Reddit user akarshbansal11 opted for something more branded, creating the kind of eye-catching Spider-Man shell theme that I’m sure many hope will become an official design someday soon:

Untitled-2Perhaps more impressive are the custom DualSense designs that we are seeing emerge. While we know parts of the controller are removable, it’s a pretty garish single unit, meaning full-body customization for the PS5 controller is potentially a tricky business.

That’s why Yakuza83’s all-black DualSense is remarkable, not only does it turn the entire controller into a classic PlayStation hue, but it replaces its front buttons with DualShock 4 designs, while apparently still fully functional:

KrysSpace went in another direction, spray painting three separate sections of the DualSense to turn it into a purple galaxy design:

And if you’re wondering if Xbox series consoles are getting the same treatment, we’re seeing fewer custom designs so far (presumably due to the console itself being less modular than the PS5), but TheBardAbaddon, who seems to have turned his Series X into Kingpin from Into the Spider-Verse. I want this sticker right away:
