SOCIALITA Michelle Amuli, affectionately known as Moana, will be buried in the Muslim way, her father declared yesterday, despite the chaos, family dispute and drama that characterized her wake.
A church service that was scheduled for yesterday afternoon had to be canceled because her father, Mr. Ishamel Amuli, stood firm.
Moana was killed in the horrific accident that also claimed the lives of socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, Malawian businessman Limumba Karim and Mozambican model Alicha Adams.
Moana (26) is expected to be buried at the Zororo Cemetery along Seke Road this afternoon. His funeral was supposed to take place yesterday at the Doves Funeral Home in Harare following a successful DNA identification.
It took the family about three hours to agree on burial arrangements, but it was Amuli’s decision that prevailed.
As the family booed, a series of events unfolded throughout the day where people gathered to witness the funeral procession.
Motorcyclists who were parked outside the hall to escort the hearse caused a stir as people jostled to take pictures.
The Prophet Passion Java, who had come for the funeral, took some time to meet with his fans who were looking to catch a glimpse of him. He later ignited a fight when people jostled to get their hands on the $ 20 bills he was handing out.
He later left after noticing that there was no service to perform.
Some members of Moana’s maternal side wore white T-shirts with the inscription “Rest in peace Moana”, while the paternal side was resplendent in their Muslim outfits.
“I am Muslim and my daughter should be buried according to our tradition. His body should not be in the Highfield state as they want, ”he said angrily as he was carried to the car, with his cousins and nephews protecting him from the media.
Moana’s uncle on her mother’s side, Austin Chimedza, said the burial will be at the Zororo Cemetery.
“Now we are at peace with the father and other members, and a lot has been said on social media, but people must respect the privacy of the family.
“We will collect his body from Doves and the burial will be at Zororo. We are satisfied with the results of the DNA test.
In the hall, a church service that was planned for yesterday had to be canceled with the decorations already in place.
One vendor, Tinevimbo Majuru (28), who was selling cigarettes and airtime near the room, said the drama started at noon when both families arrived, but that they seemed to disagree.
“I think they should let their daughter rest in peace. Moana’s aunt was screaming at the top of her voice saying that the funeral will not be held today because there are some issues that needed to be discussed. It’s just a show of power, ”Majuru said.
A close source said Moana’s funeral policy with Doves was overdue.
“Despite all the noise and uproar, there is no money for the casket they had chosen. I heard them talk to our bosses that a $ 200 refill was needed for them to purchase the coffin.
“We had done the decorations in the services, but there was an outstanding balance in the coffin. People should not spread falsehoods, ”said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
A 17-year-old street boy identified only as “Moze” said he was happy to meet the Prophet Passion.
“I received $ 20 from Passion. I don’t understand the drama, why can’t the Highfield team respect Amuli’s wish? The baby belongs to the father, not what they want to do with this silly queen.
“Anyway, I want to see if his coffin was bought by the Ginimbi family,” he said.
In an interview, the public relations manager of the Doves Holdings group, Innocent Tshuma, said that due to some disagreements, the program had to be postponed until today.
“We met with both parties and agreed that we will perform the service in the room. As Palomas we have the ability to bury anyone regardless of religious affiliation, from now on we are prepared to take the path of Muslim tradition.
“We only changed today’s time to 10 in the morning in the room, since no one had booked that time with us. There is no vigil at Highfield.
“So far the charge they had paid for the service is still in force, it was just a cancellation and we understand, it happens in families.
“If there are additional charges, they will be notified, but what they had booked is still valid. We are not offering a free service, but they have paid for what they wanted, ”he said.
