Three Northwest Children Found Dead in Unused Car

Three children were found dead in an unused vehicle in the village of Botsalano near Morokweng in the northwest on Wednesday.

The children, aged four, five and six, are believed to have suffocated.

According to the police spokesman, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the grandmother left the children in the yard at approximately 10:00 to attend a funeral.

“He returned home around 3:30 p.m. and found the lifeless bodies of the minors inside an old and unused vehicle that was parked in the yard. Of the three children, two, Thabo and Thoriso Mohibidu, were [siblings]while Bokao Sheleng, 6, was the son of a neighbor and friend of Thabo and Thoriso, “Mokgwabone said.

Mokgwabone told News24 that no crime was suspected at this stage and, while police awaited the results of the autopsy, the children were believed to have died of suffocation.

He urged community members and parents to properly care for their children to avoid tragic incidents.

This is the second incident of children suffocating in the Northwest in less than a week.

On Saturday, three students suffocated while playing in a freezer in the village of Mammutla, near Taung.
