Cape Town: The EFF canceled its scheduled meeting with the Education MEC, Debbie Schäfer, which had been scheduled for Thursday, saying it is no longer willing to sit down with her after she dismissed the party’s complaints before her protest outside from school.
The EFF had been protesting alleged racism at the school after reports of a white-only masquerade ball. The protest ended in a violent clash with residents, and party members were attacked.
A meeting was expected to take place Thursday with, but late Wednesday night, she announced that the EFF canceled their meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the party’s concerns about Brackenfell High School.
“Their representatives have said they are too busy preparing for their protest on Friday to spend even an hour discussing solutions to what is supposedly the reason for the protest.
“The EFF desperately wants a showdown outside of school. Don’t give in to their tactics. SAPS and other law enforcement authorities are making great preparations, ”said Schäfer.
EFF Provincial President Melikhaya Xego explained that she canceled the meeting because they did not seek to be run by her before the planned protest.
Xego said: “Everyone knows that Schäfer and Winde do not care about the interests of blacks. The situation in Brackenfell is something that they denied at first and now that it serves their narrative they are involved and suddenly want to talk about peace.
“Our march will continue as planned, as what happened to our members last week is not something to be taken lightly. We gave Schafer more than enough time to meet with us and record our complaints, but she was not interested. “
On Tuesday, the EFF posted on social media that they will “come down and make sure nothing works.”
