A KZN man has been convicted of raping and murdering his neighbor.
The neighbor of a 62-year-old woman was sentenced to two life sentences Tuesday for raping and murdering her in Inchanga in KwaZulu-Natal in 2019.
Police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele said Thandi Magwaza left his home in Inchanga on December 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM and did not return. His family reported him missing at the Inchanga Police Station and a search was carried out.
On December 16, 2019, members of the community and the police found her lifeless body in the bushes. His body had no visible injuries.

An autopsy was performed which revealed that she had been raped and strangled.
The investigation led the investigating officer to Magwaza’s neighbor, Nkosiyezwe David Gwala, 43, who was arrested on December 22, 2019. He made several court appearances and was denied bail. They kept him behind bars until his sentencing.
The KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg sentenced Gwala to two life sentences for murder and rape.
