The Chief Director of National Assessment and Public Examination, Dr. Rufus Poliah, speaking during the press conference on the update of ongoing exams on Wednesday morning, said the student immediately sent an email to the department spokesman , Elijah Mhlanga, at approximately 1.37 am on Monday morning. .
“Mhlanga received a complete math questionnaire and called me in the morning asking me to establish the veracity of the questionnaire and we were able to confirm that it was indeed the math questionnaire that was going to be written that morning. According to the student, he received work from four Gauteng students who asked him to help them answer some questions; however, he refused and alerted the department, “said Poliah.
Poliah said the department will still determine the source of the leak, as eight of the nine provinces are affected.
“The department has yet to establish the scope of the leak, which will determine whether the document will be rewritten. The department will conduct candidate interviews, audit test centers, and will also make use of the expertise of an IT company to help with follow-up on WhatsApp messages. We have also approached the Hawks to identify the source of the leak, ”he said.
