JOHANNESBUG – Former President Jacob Zuma said Wednesday that Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo was downplaying their relationship and, contrary to Zondo’s version, they are friends.

In a statement filed in response to Zondo’s denial at the state capture commission, Zuma said it was not true that Zondo never came to his home.

He said that after Zondo was appointed chairman of the commission, they met at his Forest Town residence for a briefing.

Lastly, Zuma said that while he may have been MEC in 1997 when Zondo became a judge, he was very influential in the ANC’s decision that placed him in that position.

At the same time, Zondo on Wednesday once again delayed his decision on whether or not to recuse himself from the state’s arrest commission of inquiry.

He was due to deliver his decision by 3 p.m. Wednesday, but it was postponed until 10 a.m. Thursday.

A statement issued by the commission’s secretary said that Zuma had provided the commission with an affidavit, which Zondo needed to consider.

“This morning, Mr. Zuma provided the commission with a statement / affidavit for the chair to consider. In light of this, the president will no longer issue the ruling at 3:00 pm, but will do so tomorrow at 10:00 am, ”the statement reads.

Zuma had argued through his attorneys that Zondo’s statements and comments at the commission were insensitive towards him, and showed that he had already made a decision about his alleged guilt.

However, the commission’s evidence leader, attorney Paul Pretorius, said Zondo should finish his job.
