Durban – Two people were seriously injured after a tree collapsed on a passing taxi on Trafford Road in Westmead shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Rescue Care Paramedics spokesperson Rowan Scandroglio, medics arrived at the scene and found that a tree had collapsed, crushing a passing taxi.

“The driver and a passenger were trapped in the taxi and Rescue Care’s advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilize the patients, while Netcare’s 911 Rescue Unit in conjunction with the Durban fire department used the jaws of the life to separate patients from the vehicle.

In a separate incident in March 2019, four people were seriously injured after a tree fell on their cars as they entered the city at the intersection of the M4 motorway exit onto Margaret Mncadi Street (Victoria Embankment).

The injured were released by the Durban Fire Department using Jaws of Life and taken to hospital.
