JOHANNESBURG – Several roads in the Midrand area have been affected by the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) strike, with part of the N1 road in Johannesburg closed to traffic.

Joburg Metro Police are on the scene, trying to divert major traffic jams.

The affected areas include New Road and Allendale Road.

JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar said the protest was legal and no one could be taken off the road for now.

“There is a significant obstruction in the Midrand area from New Road and Allendale Road at this time. There is a potential for traffic to become obstructed on the entrance ramps or on the road leading to the freeway on the N1 north where the obstruction is in the moment. “

Thousands of taxi drivers head to the Union Buildings, where they will deliver a memorandum to the Presidency.

They want the government to explain why the COVID-19 relief fund promised to the industry has yet to materialize.

On early Wednesday morning, motorists were intimidated, passengers were pushed off buses in the capital, and roads were blocked.

They also hijacked a bus, with the driver still inside.

She is traumatized but safe.
