- A couple from Durban were surprised to find a cobra spitting in Mozambique in their bathroom at midnight. He had awakened them from their sleep.
- They called several snake hunters with no luck.
- Jason Arnold came to rescue them and pulled the snake out from under the fridge.
Snake hunter Jason Arnold received a late-night call from a Durban couple on Saturday after they were awakened by noises coming from his bathroom at midnight.
“They heard the noises of things falling in the bathroom, but they didn’t bother to check, thinking it was the wind,” Arnold told News24.
The couple decided to investigate when the noise continued, only to discover a seven-year-old, 1.2m-long, Mozambican cobra spitting meandering between their bottles of shampoo and deodorant.
Shocked to see the poisonous snake, the couple quickly closed the bathroom door and sealed it with a towel before calling for help.
After unsuccessfully calling several snake handlers in the area, the couple noticed that the reptile had managed to make its way under the door, bypassing the barrier of towels they had created.

“They were calling so many other handlers, but they were either out or had an excuse why they couldn’t help,” Arnold said.
“The snake had a free field in the house and the family was forced to wait outside until help arrived,” he added.
Fortunately, Arnold was available to help.
“In fact, it had come from two other calls and I thought I could finally get some rest … But that was not the case,” he explained.
When it arrived, the slithering snake was hidden under the refrigerator.
He pulled it out from under the fridge gently holding his tail. The cobra poked its head out from underneath and Arnold managed to grab it before removing the snake. The cobra will be released on a warm day later this week.
“Name [Mozambique spitting cobra] it’s a bit misleading because these snakes are commonly found in the Durban area, “he said.
