JOHANNESBURG – Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo delayed his decision on whether to remain chairman of the state’s arrest investigation.
Zondo will respond to a recusal request filed by former President Jacob Zuma’s legal team that took all day to deliberate on Monday.
He said Monday that he expected to issue his ruling at 10 a.m. Tuesday, but said reaching a decision could take longer.

The request for disqualification could have far-reaching implications for the commission’s work over the past two years, involving 257 witnesses.
Zondo has said that he cannot recuse himself because he is the only member of the investigation.

Zuma’s legal team says Zondo will be biased against the former president because of his personal record.
The former president’s team also warns that if Zuma is forced to testify, he will simply not say anything.
The recusal decision is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
