- EThekwini City Manager Sipho Nzuza is expected to appear in court for allegedly violating the conditions of his bail.
- Nzuza was arrested in March in connection with a Durban solid waste tender scandal worth more than 400 million rand.
- He is out on bail of R50,000 with strict conditions.
EThekwini City Manager Sipho Nzuza is expected to appear in Durban Commercial Crimes Court on Monday for allegedly violating his bail conditions.
The conditions of his bail were set after the Hawks National Clean Audit Task Force arrested him on March 10, said Hawks spokesman Col. Katlego Mogale.
The task force has been appointed to investigate various allegations of fraud and corruption that led to the loss of millions of rand within the municipality of eThekwini.
Nzuza appeared in court in connection with a solid waste tender fraud case in Durban worth more than 400 million rand, along with former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and other defendants.
He was granted a bail of 50,000 rand with strict bail conditions.

Mogale said they knew that Nzuza was placed on special license by the eThekwini municipality and that upon returning from his license, “he participated in certain actions that were in [breach] of their bail conditions “.
“The team immediately launched investigations into this matter, amounting to conduct that clearly indicated that Nzuza violated the conditions of bail granted to him.
“The preferred charges at this stage related to the matter are fraud, money laundering, violation of the Municipal Financial Management Law (MFMA), violation of the Law on Prevention and Combating Corrupt Activities, Law on Prevention of Organized Crime and contravention Municipal Government Law “.
The conditions of Nzuza’s bond included that:
- do not contact or communicate in any way, directly or indirectly, with witnesses related to the audit trail of the Durban Solid Waste-eThekwini tender;
- it refrains from being involved in the disciplinary processes of the officials charged in relation to this investigation;
- Do not participate directly or influence any bidding process during the duration of the investigation, and also that your powers as an accountant in relation to the bidding processes are delegated in the terms of Section 79 read with 77 and Section 106 of the MFMA 56 of 2003.
