A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after her husband allegedly spilled gasoline on her and set her and their two children on fire after the couple had a bitter argument in Zwelitsha, Nelspruit.

According to police, a 43-year-old man went into hiding after he allegedly set his family on fire on Tuesday, November 10.

Neighbors came to the family’s rescue after the incident, which is believed to have occurred after an argument.

“The police were notified of the incident and upon arrival at the scene, a case was opened accordingly and they immediately began a search for the suspect,” said police spokesman Col. Donald Mdhluli.

The woman and her children were rushed to hospital and received treatment for severe burns.

Mdhluli said the two children, Karabo Shabangu and Nokubonga Shabangu, ages 9 and 11, succumbed to their injuries in hospital on Thursday and Friday respectively.

“After news of his untimely death broke, the man was found on Friday hanging under a tree next to his parents’ home,” Mdhluli added.

He was certified dead at the scene.

Police are investigating two counts of murder, attempted murder, arson and an investigation file.

The police leadership in Mpumalanga has strongly condemned the incident and has asked members of the public to seek help from social workers whenever they face challenges in their relationships, rather than resorting to ending their own life or life. of your loved ones.
