Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s defensive crisis has continued to worsen during the international break, and the club made its position clear on its plans for the January transfer window. Liverpool made the decision in the summer not to replace Dejan Lovren with Klopp happy to use Fabinho as their fourth center of choice.
But now the Brazilian is expected to be called up to play defense on a regular basis with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk recovering from surgery.
Van Dijk tore his ACL last month in the Merseyside Derby against Everton.
Joel Matip was injured at the time, while Fabinho took a hit in the Champions League, leaving Gomez the only senior central defender option at Anfield for a few weeks.
The Cameroonian was able to return in time to face Manchester City before the international break, lining up alongside Gómez.
