Molefi Ntseki aims for a complete victory over Sao Tome and Principe in South Africa’s second qualifier for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
Bafana Bafana beat the island nation 2-0 in their inaugural match at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.
Percy Tau broke the deadlock with a penalty in the 55th minute before a goal in the 90th minute from second-half substitute Bongani Zungu.
It was an injury-stricken team that took the field after a total of seven players withdrew from the original 26-man squad.
Despite an uninspired performance, the victory holds South Africa three points behind AFCON Group C leaders Ghana with six points from three games.
Ntseki’s teams lost their opening Group C match to Ghana 2-0 before beating Sudan 1-0, and will play the two teams again in March 2021.
Sudan, in third place in the group, has three points while São Tomé underpins the classification with zero points.
Speaking after Friday night’s tie, Ntseki challenged his team to impress against São Tomé at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
He told reporters: “At first we were fighters and we were not right. Sometimes you get frustrated if you are on the court and things don’t go the way you love, but the second half was better.
“Respecting São Tomé, they have nothing to lose, we have everything to lose if we do not obtain a positive result [in Port Elizabeth on Monday]. “
The Bafana boss added: “It is our game, to be in South Africa. Even if we played in São Tomé, it would be the same. Because in every game we are fully aware that we cannot allow Ghana to escape with the group. We are also a force to be reckoned with. “
