Experts have seen an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, especially in the Nelson Mandela Bay subway and the Sarah Baartman district.

JOHANNESBURG – The Eastern Cape Health Department said that the increase in coronavirus cases in the province in recent days has put heavy pressure on its hospitals.

Experts have seen an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, especially in the Nelson Mandela Bay subway and the Sarah Baartman district.

As of Sunday, there are more than 107,000 cases reported in the province.

In the last 24 hours, more than a thousand cases were registered.

President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed concern this week about the rapid increase in new covid19 cases reported in the Eastern Cape.

Authorities are now closing in on the Nelson Mandela Bay subway, where cases have soared in the past nine days at an alarming rate.

Eastern Cape Health spokeswoman Siyanda Manana said they were concerned.

“Other districts, like Amathole and Chris Hani, we are also concerned about.”

There are more than 6,000 active COVID-19 cases currently in the Nelson Mandela Bay Area alone, some patients are being treated in healthcare facilities while others are in isolation at home.
