JOHANNESBURG – The state capture inquiry commission is preparing to hear former President Jacob Zuma’s request that Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo recuse himself.

Zuma received a subpoena to appear for the investigation this week in order to respond to the widespread allegations of corruption made against him.

He has since issued a statement through his foundation saying he has family ties to the deputy chief, hinting that this may cloud Zondo’s judgment as president of the investigation.

But Zondo has now cleared the air after explaining that he had a son with Zuma’s sister-in-law more than two decades ago, a relationship that began before Zuma married the woman.

The request for recusal is scheduled to be heard at 10 am on Monday.
