JOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng elected Solly Msimanga as the provincial party leader during a virtual conference on Saturday.
Msimanga is the former candidate for prime minister of Gauteng and mayor of the city of Tshwane.
In September, he was appointed to the post of interim provincial leader following the resignation of John Moodey from the DA after 22 years in the party.
“The new leadership team has been given a huge mandate to move the party forward and will seek to regain lost ground and go further by overthrowing the African National Congress in Gauteng,” the prosecutor said in a statement.
Fred Nel was elected provincial president and Bongani Nkomo was elected deputy.
According to the presidents of the DA Gauteng Congress, the vote for the party’s new provincial leadership was conducted using the online voting platform, OpaVote.
“The results of the elections met all the electoral requirements and rules of the district district. They were signed by us, as presidents, as well as the party agents of the candidates who supervised the voting process, ”said the prosecutor.
“All the people who observed the vote consider that the elections are free and fair.”
