Princess Diana planned to make documentaries to highlight her humanitarian work, “kind of like” what Meghan wants to do, journalist and author Tina Brown said, according to the UK’s Daily Express.
Diana’s friend Brown was referring to a multi-million dollar deal that Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, recently signed with Netflix.
“When I had lunch with her, she was talking about making documentaries, kind of like Meghan wants to do,” he said.
He added: “Diana was the founder of this whole idea of harnessing celebrity for philanthropic causes.”
Tina Brown said Diana would have been a major force in the refugee crisis in the 2000s. “No one has been able to replicate that to the extent that Diana did.”
Prince Harry and Megan Markle received a backlash at home when their deal with the streaming giant to make documentaries first came up.
The criticism came after her decision to leave her royal roles to live a more independent life.
The Duke and Duchess currently live in the United States together with their son, Archie.
