Cape Town – The EFF has brought charges against Brackenfell residents after the violent confrontation that occurred outside Brackenfell High School on Monday.
The party had been protesting alleged racism at the school, following reports of a white-only masquerade ball.
A Brackenfell man who allegedly fired shots in the middle of the fight involving EFF supporters and Brackenfell High parents also appeared in Kuilsriver Magistrates Court.
The case against Jaco Pretorius, 39, was postponed until January 25.
Pretorius appeared briefly Wednesday morning on charges of public violence after he was arrested Monday for firing a firearm three times during a protest meeting. His case was postponed and he was released after a warning.
On Monday, Pretorius was among a group that violently attacked a group of EFF protesters near Brackenfell High.
EFF provincial president Melikhaya Xego said members of the organization would not physically follow the case.
On Tuesday, Xego accompanied a group of EFF members to press charges against those who attacked them during their demonstration.
“After our members were seen by healthcare professionals, we visited the Brackenfell Police Station and brought charges against the people who attacked and assaulted us on Monday. Now we will let the law take its course, ”Xego said.
