Tabraiz shamsi
claimed the best entry figures by a Titans bowler on Thursday, breaking
By Dale Steyn record 12 years ago, to help his team crush the Warriors by eight wickets in their 4-day National Series meeting in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.
Proteas roulette ended with a flawless 8/32 in 16.2 overs when the hosts were emphatically impressed by 124 on the fourth morning, setting the visitors a meager 63 goal. They got there in nine overs at St George’s Park to rise to the top of Group B with a second win in as many games.
Shamsi was the star of the last two days with the best comeback of his career leaving the Warriors in a spin. In the end, his numbers enhanced Steyn’s return from 8/41 for the Titans against the Eagles that were recorded in Bloemfontein back in 2007/08.
The home team started the final day on 97/6 after being rocked on the penultimate night by roulette as they looked to build on their precarious 35-run lead.
But they lasted just 8.2 overs as Shamsi grabbed three of the last four wickets in the form of Mthiwekhaya Nabe (6), top scorer Sinethemba Qeshile (28) and Stefan Tait (0).
The other wicket was claimed by Lizaad Williams, who finished with one for 48.
The Titans received a minor scare early in the chase when Nabe (2/27) got rid of Dean Elgar for a duck followed by Theunis de Bruyn for 13.
But Heinrich Klaasen (20 *) and Aiden Markram (19 *) calmed the nerves, before quickly chasing the races to seal another major victory.
Scores in brief:
Warriors
231 (Cloete 66, Williams 4/64) and 124 (Shamsi 8/32)
Titans
293 (Klaasen 68, Elgar 66, Makhanya 58, Nabe 3/54, Mate 3/88) and 63/2 (Klaasen 20 *, Nabe 2/27)
Titans won by 8 wickets
