Students from Cape Town’s Protea Heights Academy in Brackenfell had to be evacuated on Wednesday after a bomb scare.

The Western Cape education department said the police bomb squad was called in.

“Rumors that a device has been found are false,” said department spokesman Bronagh Hammond.

“Fortunately, the candidates who wrote the Economy article this morning were not affected,” he said.

Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said police are investigating.

Tensions escalated at another nearby school earlier this week after violent clashes occurred at nearby Brackenfell High School, when angry community members clashed with EFF members protesting an alleged exclusionary private enrollment party.
