the Sharks they have had to postpone the appointment of their match-23 to face Griquas in Kimberley on Friday, following delays in the results of the Covid-19 test.
Head coach Sean Everitt was supposed to announce the team at 11:00 on Wednesday, but had to delay the announcement another day until Thursday morning.
The Sharks are third on the Super Rugby Unlocked record, behind the Bulls (19 points) and tied with the Stormers for second (13 points). They are chasing a bonus point win at Kimberley to be within one point of the Bulls, who are enjoying a break this week.
The sharks said in a press release:
“With reference to the team statement and press conference scheduled for today, please note that these announcements will be postponed until tomorrow (Thursday).
“According to the Covid-19 protocol, the equipment is tested every week and due to a delay in receiving these results, we are unable to publish an equipment today.
“The team will leave at 08:30 tomorrow with the press conference scheduled for 10:30.”
The delay in Covid-19 results will be of concern to SA Rugby and the franchise, following the events at Ellis Park, where an outbreak at the Lions’ camp caused their third-round match against Cheetahs to be postponed and then it will be canceled. Both teams received two points for “draws”, after SA Rugby failed to fit into a repeat on the rugby calendar.
Last week, Everitt’s team was affected by the injuries of captain Lukhanyo Am (four weeks) and S’bu Nkosi forced Everitt to change his lineup with the team that beat the Pumas in Mbombela the previous weekend.
The start between Griquas and the Sharks is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
