It is unclear whether he will step aside as the corruption case against him progresses.
Magashule will appear in court in Bloemfontein on Friday.
Political analyst Ralph Mathekga believes the ANC is more divided now than under former President Jacob Zuma.

Mathekga warns that Magashule and his followers will do everything possible to disrupt the investigation into the corruption allegations against the secretary general.
“This will certainly enter the ANC’s elective conference, but it will not gain the same traction as the Zuma case. ANC members are also getting wiser.”
MKMVA’s Carl Niehaus said his members were angry about the arrest warrant and would be in court on Friday to support Magashule.

“We also express our fear that the arrest warrant may be seen as a selective target of certain political individuals.”
The ANC said it would be monitoring developments closely, with some analysts warning that the order could strengthen attempts to overthrow President Cyril Ramaphosa and close the curtains on his so-called new dawn.
