He also rejected a DA amendment to the EFF motion that also supported the creation of an ad hoc committee made up of members from different parties represented in the National Assembly.
The rejection of the motion by the ANC comes as the attention of the farms has been highlighted after the murder of Brendin. Horner, a farm manager in Senekal, in the Free State.
Horner’s murder increased tensions, and the farmers stormed court during a bail hearing for the suspect. A week later, the EFF descended on the small farming town, further aggravating the situation.
In its amendment, the ANC recommended instead that the labor and employment portfolio committees, along with the rural development and agrarian reform portfolio committee, deal with matters.
Reading the ANC’s motion, MP Judith Shabalala said that parliament should direct the committees to carry out the review.
He said the two committees, along with the NCOP, should consult with relevant stakeholders and set a deadline for November 30, 2021.
