Covid-19 hits Bafana Bafana squad while Molefi Ntseki makes 5 forced changes

Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki was forced on Monday to make a series of late changes to his 25 men team due to medical reasons with three players testing positive for Covid-19.

Cape Town revealed on Sunday that club captain Thamsanqa Mkhize and fellow defender Abbubaker Mobara tested positive for Covid-19 and were ruled out for the upcoming AFCON 2021 qualifiers.

The duo Bafana Bafana went into isolation, and it has since been confirmed that Sport24 that midfielder Thibang Phete, who plays for Portuguese Belenenses, also tested positive.

“Bafana Bafana has had several withdrawals with Thibang Phete, Andile Jali, Abubakar Mobara, Thami Mkhize and Thulani Serero all due to medical reasons,” a statement said.

“They have been replaced by Musa Lebusa, Vincent Pule, Thapelo Morena, Tshepo Rikhotso and Thabo Nodada.”

The next two AFCON matches of 2021 against São Tomé will take place in South Africa with the first match taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.

The return leg is at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday.

The start is at 21:00.
