The revamped Toyota Fortuner is set to hit the market in South Africa very soon and we have local prices for the updated range.
The revamped seven-seater SUV, with a fresh front end, was unveiled in Thailand in June 2020, with the most growling 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine 150 kilowatts Y 500 Nm, compared to 130 kW and 450 Nm for the pre-facelift model) and better fuel consumption.
From what we can tell, the naturally aspirated 2.7-liter petrol engine has been scrapped, and the local Fortuner line now comprises the 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine (with 110 kW and 400 Nm unchanged) and already mentioned. 2.8 liter oil burner already used in the refurbished Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado. The free-breathing 4.0-liter V6 was phased out (as were all manual gearbox options) in April 2020.
The revised Fortuner range of seven is priced at R566 800 and run through R790 500. Toyota South Africa Motors appears to have introduced a new flagship VX trim level, featuring the brand’s “Safety Sense package”, which includes elements such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and a pre-crash system.
Inside, the Japanese firm has included a redesigned instrument panel and an eight-inch touch screen system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality). Exterior paint colors now include Glacier White, Chromium Silver, Graphite Gray Metallic, Attitude Black, Cosmic Blue, Chestnut Brown, and Oxide Bronze.
The current generation of Fortuner was revealed in 2015 before hitting the South African market at the end of the first quarter of 2016. The strong-selling local range is built at the Toyota Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal.
