JOHANNESBURG – Following news that an arrest warrant was issued for the secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC), Ace Magashule, in connection with his alleged role in the R255 million Free State asbestos audit contract, Magashule said on Tuesday he was “ready for nothing” and claimed that the “enemy” had infiltrated the ruling party.
“We are prepared for anything. Luta continues; the fighting continues because the enemy has infiltrated the ANC, ”Magashule said speaking with party supporters during a door-to-door campaign in Soweto ahead of Wednesday’s by-elections to be held across the country.
Magashule said he was not surprised by the news regarding the arrest warrant, and said he would consult with his lawyers on the matter.
“At the right time we will talk about some of these things,” he said.

The Hawks confirmed Tuesday that the National Director of Public Prosecutions signed an arrest warrant for Magashule. He was expected to appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Friday.
At the same time, Dakota Legoete, a member of the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC), called on ANC members to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
“What we are asking the comrades is that all our structures, branches and leaders remain calm. Comrade Ace Magashule as a citizen is protected by all laws [and] the constitution of the republic. It reserves the right to remain silent. ”
He spoke at the same campaign event that Magashule attended.
Legoete said they would ask Magashule to “shut up” on the criminal matter.
“He will answer to the courts and the judiciary in the reverent moment once charges have been brought against him. For now, we will request that our SG [secretary-general] must be silent.
“He, along with his legal team, know what to do under the circumstances. This matter will be addressed through the processes of the law, ”he said.
