JOHANNESBURG – The leader of the Western Cape Democratic Alliance (DA), Bonginkosi Madikizela, insists that comparing the economic freedom fighters (EFF) with the Nazis is not insensitive and has gone even further, blaming the Red Berets to lead South Africa down the same path as fascist Germany.

The party released a statement Monday saying the Nazis had brown shirts and terrorized minorities, likening them to the EFF here in their homeland.

The district attorney was reacting to the chaotic and violent scenes that unfolded at Brackenfell High School in Cape Town on Monday.

Community members including some parents attacked EFF members who were organizing a protest after a white-only tuition dance was held.

Madikizela said that the EFF’s behavior had the stamp of the Nazis.

“The Nazis in Germany did not start by killing the Jews, they started in the same way that the EFF has been behaving.”

“If we are not careful and allow the EFF to break the law with impunity, we will end up in the same situation.”

The district attorney did not clarify which law the EFF violated.

For those who have lost family members during the Holocaust, these comments are a painful reminder of what happened to their loved ones.

The chairwoman of the Jewish Board of Deputies, Mary Kluk, said these comments were hurtful and insensitive.

“They bring memories to many people and represent a great tragedy and a lot of pain.”

The board plans to address the matter soon with the district attorney.
