Don’t Undo What We Have Accomplished: Ramaphosa’s Plead Over Covid-19

The utmost vigilance from all of us is required to keep the coronavirus at bay, President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Monday when calling on South Africans to be responsible for helping combat the spread of Covid-19.

With the holiday season approaching, and after eight months of battling the coronavirus, Ramaphosa said it is vital “we don’t become the architects of our own ruin.”

“A resurgence on any scale will not only drastically reverse our advances in health, but will quell the green shoots of economic recovery that have emerged and take us from spring to winter,” the president said in his weekly bulletin.

To prevent a second wave of Covid-19 infections, Ramaphosa urged the country to observe public health guidelines that remain in effect.

“When we don’t wear a mask to a social gathering, when we attend crowded events, we don’t just put ourselves and others at risk. We are also jeopardizing our economic recovery. Let’s all continue to play our role.
