  • Pieter Hills, 56, was shot and killed during an alleged robbery at a Hennenman farm in the Free State.
  • The gruesome discovery of her body was made by a domestic worker.
  • One of the four suspects charged with the murder was found hanged in his cell.

One of the four people arrested in connection with the murder of a Hennenman farmer is expected to apply for bail, it became known in local magistrates court Monday.

Tshidiso Patrick Bochedi, 36, briefly appeared in Hennenman Magistrates Court on one count of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and burglary.

The case was postponed for further investigation until Monday, Nov. 16, when he would formally request bail, Free State police spokesman Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said. He would remain in custody pending his next court appearance, Makhele said.

The second suspect was due to appear in court on Wednesday, November 11, while the third was released after he could not be positively linked to the crime. The fourth reportedly committed suicide while in police custody.

The investigation continues and more arrests are imminent, Makhele said. The farmer, Pieter Hills, 56, was shot and killed while his son Eddie was stabbed by robbers who attacked them Thursday night. Eddie is in critical condition at the hospital.

The two were found by a domestic worker working at the Swartpan farm at 5 a.m. Friday. Hill’s wife Antoinette had called the domestic worker because she was concerned after trying in vain to communicate with her husband and son.

It is suspected that two or three pistols were stolen during the robbery.
