The South African international was introduced as a substitute in the second half to play his first match in Scotland.
Rangers coach Steven Gerrard praised Bongani Zungu for his impressive debut in an 8-0 win over Hamilton Academical on Sunday.
The South African international, who is on loan for a season from French club Amiens, made his first Scottish Premiership appearance after replacing Ryan Jack for the second 45 minutes.
Goals from James Tavernier, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo, Kemar Roofe and Brandon Barker sealed the resounding victory for Gers, but Zungu gave a good account of his qualities.
After the Rangers extended their undefeated start to the 2020-21 league season to 14 games, Gerrard praised the 28-year-old midfielder for keeping the team balanced in the second half and hopes he continues to improve in subsequent games.
“We were comfortable when he came into the game, but it was about the second half performance,” Gerrard told the club’s website. “We demanded the best standards from halftime to the end and I wanted more goals.
“Bongani came in and kept us balanced behind the ball and kept it going. He showed his passing range and his aggressiveness in his profile, so he’s only going to get better and better with time.”
Nigeria’s Joe Aribo was one of the Rangers’ standout players after extending his league tally to four goals with a double on Sunday.
The former Liverpool midfielder believes the 24-year-old is in fine form after recovering from an injury that kept him out of action for nearly two months.
Gerrard added: “Joe Aribo is getting closer to being in his prime, so I have some picking dilemmas going forward, but that’s what I want.”
