12 things to know about SA Ters fraud

In a series of written parliamentary responses, Nxesi has revealed 12 things about the alleged Ters fraud:

1. The five senior FIU officials who are suspended earn a combined monthly salary of R450,551:

  • The gross monthly salary of the FIU commissioner, Tebogo Maruping, is R107,863;
  • UIF CFO Fezeka Puzi receives a payment of R101,118;
  • Judith Kumbi, Chief Operating Officer, receives R94,252;
  • Maria Ramashaba, Director: Supply Chain Management, earns R80,089; Y
  • Nompumelelo Mconywa, chief director of the job activation program earns R97,227.

2. An amount of 41.3 million rand was irregularly paid to civil servants, who were not eligible for Ters funding because they received their full salaries during the shutdown.

3. An amount of R119.8 million was paid between April 1 and September 30 to people who did not qualify for the program.

4. Fifty-three applicants under the legal working age benefited from the plan in the amount of R224,677.

5. An applicant whose identification number was the same as that of an employee of the FIU received R4,027.

6. The dead – 113 of them – benefited from the plan in the amount of R441,144.

7. The prisoners – 26 of them – received R129,242 from Ters.

8. More than 30 million rand were paid to people with invalid identity numbers, 69,419 rand was paid to 20 people who also received a disability grant from the state, while 88.8 million rand was paid to 22,611 people who they received an old-age pension grant.

9. There were four applicants with the same bank details as the FIU employees who were paid R14,613 between them.

10. The FIU still has 729,900 applications to process with an approximate value of R3.1bn

11. It was identified that public officials, 9,572 of them, had requested and benefited from Ters in an irregular manner.

12. The investment portfolio of the FIU is worth more than R114bn. The fund has R59.8bn in liquid assets and R54.2bn in illiquid assets.
