Dawn Wing courier company has partnered with What3words GPS tracking company to ensure delivery to an exact location in South Africa.

What3words is developing a global standard for communicating location and has provided a unique three-word address to each of the country’s 3 × 3 square meters, making it easy to find and share any exact location.

This makes it possible for anyone, anywhere, to describe their precise address in just three words and discover it in four available South African languages, including Afrikaans, Xhosa, isiZulu, and English.

“With this technology, it means that we can locate the recipient within three meters and it ensures accuracy, reduced delivery time, but it also supports greater responsibility on the part of the driver,” said Hilton Eachus, director of customer service for DPD Laser, which is marketed as Dawn Wing.

“If the driver cannot deliver the package, it will not be because he cannot find the recipient, it can only be another difficulty, such as a detour or traffic, for example.”

Eachus said it is important that anyone requesting delivery of a package receive it, regardless of where they live.

He said business customers also want an express parcel company that can deliver on time and accurately, while it is important that the company’s drivers are as efficient and safe as possible.

The success of the tool has also affected emergency services. Until recently, thousands of people struggled to tell emergency services where exactly they are and how to find them.

In areas with no addresses, callers can often only provide vague descriptions or references to landmarks, meaning emergency services spend vital minutes and often hours searching for those in urgent need of help.

For this reason, Vodacom gave the What3words page “Find me” a zero, which means that no data is used for emergency services.

“Our volumes have skyrocketed due to the lockdown, so it has never been more important to be accurate and on time, ensuring excellent service to the rapidly growing e-commerce market. If your messenger is using what3words, then you can expect both, ”Eachus said.
