Cape Town Sunday revealed that defenders Thamsanqa Mkhize Y Abbubaker Mobara both have been discarded from Bafana Bafana’s next 2021 AFCON raters after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Bafana Bafana duo has now been isolated, and the club released a short statement on their social media accounts.

The city tweeted on its official Twitter account: “Thamsanqa Mkhize and Abbubaker Mobara have been in isolation following a positive COVID-19 test.

“They will not meet their international obligations and we wish both of them a speedy recovery.”

This news comes after City’s 2-0 loss to the Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday and ahead of Bafana’s back-to-back qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations.

Mkhize and Mobara were already on the national field before the two games against São Tomé and Principio.

Bafana Bafana also announced on its official Twitter account that several other players had also been ruled out of the double header against the islanders.

“Thibang Phete, Thulani Serero, Andile Jali, Reeve Frosler, Thami Mkhize and Abubakar Mobara are out of the team to play Sao Tome on Friday and Monday for medical reasons.” said a tweet.

It is unclear why the other players from the team were ruled out.
