Two men have been arrested for allegedly attacking those involved in a disciplinary hearing against one of the defendants.

One of the suspects, a former employee of a company in Pietermaritzburg, was fired after arriving at work drunk. He was subjected to an internal disciplinary hearing.

“Everyone who participated in the hearing, including witnesses, was attacked,” said police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

Another 40-year-old security guard was shot and wounded in Imbali in January 2019. The presiding officer had his vehicle and home set on fire in Sweetwaters and received death threats in July 2019. A security guard, 44-year-old and her son, 24, were filmed dead at their home in Snathing in January 2020.

“These cases were reported to the Plessislaer police station and assigned to the Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit. On November 5, 2020, the police arrested two men and they were charged,” Mbele said.

The two men, aged 38 and 43, will appear in Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Monday. They face charges of murder, attempted murder, intimidation, willful damage to property and arson.

The investigation is ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out, Mbele said.
