JOHANNESBURG – The People’s Congress (Cope) said it planned to file a formal criminal complaint against former South African Airways (SAA) board chairman Dudu Myeni for revealing the identity of a whistleblower in the Zondo Commission.

Myeni repeated the name of the complainant known as Mr. X on numerous occasions while giving testimony at the commission.

The identity of Mr. X was hidden by order of the chairman of the commission, the vice president of the Supreme Court, Raymond Zondo, because he feared for his safety.

Cope’s Dennis Bloem said Myeni’s action showed total disregard for the commission and its processes.

“This is a very serious violation and a criminal act. His irresponsible actions will scare other whistleblowers who want to come forward and give information to the commission.”
