African nations have rallied behind Biden as US president-elect, with messages of congratulations from leaders across the continent for Biden and US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

JOHANNESBURG – African leaders have welcomed Joe Biden’s electoral victory in the US elections and have expressed hope that his victory will boost trade and other relations between the continent and the United States.
Biden defeated Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States, toppling the incumbent with a commitment to unify and repair a nation reeling from the worsening coronavirus pandemic and deep political divisions.

There is hope that Biden can adopt policies that reestablish cooperative ties with the continent and the rest of the world.
African nations have joined Biden as US president-elect, with messages of congratulations from leaders across the continent to Biden and US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
President Cyril Ramaphosa was among world leaders who applauded the winner of the presidential election as he wished Biden success in the leadership of the American people and increased cooperation between the two nations.
He was joined by leaders of regional neighbors in Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari also congratulated Biden “on his election at a time of uncertainty and fear in world affairs.”

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said he looked forward to working closely with Biden and Harris.
Relations between Ethiopia and the United States have been at their lowest level recently after the Trump administration blocked a $ 130 million aid package.
Experts said Trump ignored Africa for much of his term, occasionally criticizing its leaders.
