Raheem Sterling is ready to lead Manchester City’s attack against Liverpool today. However, the former Red has a terrible record against his former club.
Sergio Agüero is out, so Manchester City will turn to Raheem Sterling to lead their attack against Liverpool. They also do it at a difficult time.
City have struggled to score goals this season. They have just nine in six Premier League games, in fact far short of the 17 Liverpool have managed in one more game.
The Manchester Evening News predicts a front of three from Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Phil Foden for Sunday. That clearly puts Sterling in the prime position of Pep Guardiola.
However, that is not a strong place to be.

Poor return
Sterling does not have a good record against Liverpool since he left the club for £ 49 million in 2015. Especially when it comes to scoring goals and threatening the Reds.
The English international has just one goal in nine Premier League games against Liverpool. That stretches to one in 11 if you include the Champions League.
Also only three total assists in the 11 games. But it is more than a bad goal and an assist for the return.
Of those 11 games, Sterling has won just two against his former team. In fact, they have only drawn two more, meaning they have lost seven times in 11 games in the Premier League and the Champions League.
It is a very poor record against his former club, both individually and for his team. The fact that City depends a lot on a good game on Sunday then can only mean good things for Liverpool.
However, the Reds’ defensive struggle will make things easier for him. They don’t have Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, but Liverpool will undoubtedly prefer to face Sterling over Aguero.
