WASHINGTON – Former US President Barack Obama hailed the “historic and decisive victory” of fellow Democrat Joe Biden in the US elections on Saturday and called on Americans to overcome bitter divisions and “find common ground.”

“Once each vote is counted, President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect (Kamala) Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory,” Obama, Donald Trump’s predecessor in the White House, said in a statement.

Obama acknowledged that Biden, 77, “will face a series of extraordinary challenges that no incoming president has ever faced: a raging pandemic, an unequal economy and justice system, a democracy at risk and a climate in danger.”

“I know you will get the job done with the best interests of all Americans in mind, whether or not I have your vote.”
