“He is currently entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the eThekwini Regional Task Force after the dissolution of the Regional Executive Committee, to bring the Region to its next Regional Conference which was delayed by the closure of the country due to the COVID 19 pandemic. ”Ntombela said.

“The member alleged that upon arriving at the scene he met the deceased wife, Mrs. Ndobe, who alleges that the family was all sitting in the living room … the deceased went to the master bedroom. When he was sitting on the chair in the master bedroom he asked for water, when the deceased wife went to fetch water she heard the sound of a gunshot from the master bedroom, ”Mbele said.

“Then she went to investigate and found her husband sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to his left chest (heart). The deceased was identified as Mr. Mluleki Ndobe, 46 years old. The victim used his private firearm to shoot himself and the gun was found lying on the floor and was next to him on the floor, ”he said.

Mbele said a 9mm firearm and a spent cartridge were found at the scene and live ammunition was found in the magazine.

“No suicide note was found and it was not suspected that the deceased could commit suicide. The deceased was later transported to the morgue, ”he said.

Ntombela described Ndobe as a dedicated and disciplined servant of the people and cadre who had served the movement at various levels previously, including as mayor of the Harry Gwala district municipality, provincial president of SALGA and leader of the ANC and the Youth League. in the region for several years since Mzimkhulu was integrated into KwaZulu Natal.

“In all the responsibilities the organization gave him, he remained an activist focused on improving the lives of our people.

“He served the political education unit eloquently and diligently to ensure that we build and mold a new cadre in the movement that understood its responsibilities in the new fields of struggle without ever forgetting the traditions of the Congressional movement,” Ntombela said.

The chairman of the KZN legislature, Nontembeko Boyce, also confirmed that Ndobe had been ill for some time, adding that his passing had robbed the KZN legislature and the country of a righteous leader, a deep thinker, and a dedicated servant of the people. .

“In this hour of pain, we are comforted that Mr. Ndobe leaves a rich legacy for all of us to emulate. Mr. Ndobe, a teacher by profession, joined the legislature at the beginning of the sixth term in 2019 after having successfully served as mayor of Harry District Township.

“Due to his outstanding leadership traits, it did not take long for Mr. Ndobe to rise to the Legislature, where he carried out his role as vice president with great diligence and passion, qualities that were admired by all political party seats,” said Boyce .

He said that Ndobe, throughout his life, had accomplished extraordinary feats in various domains in which he served, including the local sphere of government, the South African Student Congress (Things), the Youth League of the African National Congress and the Congress. African National (ANC). ).

Boyce said that Ndobe belonged to a generation of leaders whose being was dedicated to serving the people with distinction, which explained his decision to continue serving the people of KwaZulu-Natal even during a time when he was seriously ill.

“We will deeply miss him for his ability to unite members of the legislature from across the political spectrum toward a common goal. He will be remembered for his love of education. “After earning her education degree, she continued to expand her horizons and received an MBA at Mancosa. At the time of his passing, he was studying for his doctorate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, ”Boyce said.

He added that the details of Ndobe’s funeral will be released after the legislature has engaged with the Ndobe family.

Cosatu Provincial Secretary Edwin Mkhize said that Ndobe’s passing was a great loss not only for Ndobe’s family but also for the ANC, the provincial legislature, and the entire KwaZulu-Natal province.

“Comrade Ndobe was one of the leaders who was really humble, down to earth, disciplined, an intelligent person who had critical thinking skills. Looking at those qualities makes his loss even more painful because leaders like him today are rare.

“Many leaders, in general, think that if you are a leader you must be pompous and arrogant. They tend to confuse arrogance with leadership, but Ndobe was very humble, disciplined but also very firm and stood up for his beliefs, ”said Mkhize.

He added that although Ndobe faced legal problems in recent years, after he was accused of being involved in the murder of the former secretary general of the ANC Youth League Sindiso Magaqa in 2017, the fact that the charges were provisionally dropped last year was proof that the whole thing was just hearsay.
