A man has appeared in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court for allegedly defrauding a company out of 60 million rand.

Naaym Hardien, 44, was facing fraud charges after the Hawks’ serious corruption investigation team arrested him on Friday.

Hardien was hired by Sedibeng Breweries as a materials planner and was responsible for placing orders for shrink wrap and receiving ordered products, said Hawks spokeswoman Lt. Col. Philani Nkwalase.

“It is alleged that during the period from November 2009 to June 2014, Sedibeng had suffered a multi-million rand loss related to fraudulent invoices that were paid for inventory that was never delivered to its warehouse,” Nkwalase said.

The disclosure of the alleged fraudulent activities came in 2014, when the CFO noted that the cost to manufacture was extremely high. An internal review was conducted between May and June 2014.

Hardien was allegedly linked to fraudulent delivery notes, as well as information processing through the system used by the company.

Hardien has been released on bail of R3,000. The case was postponed until November 27.

“More arrests are imminent as the investigation continues,” Nkwalase said.
