WASHINGTON – Democrat Joe Biden took the lead in Pennsylvania, a key state on the battlefield, where a victory by the former vice president would push him beyond the threshold of electoral votes needed to win the White House, official data showed.
No more ballots have been counted yet, but shortly before 1400 GMT, Biden had been ahead of incumbent President Donald Trump by more than 5,500 votes, according to official interim results from the state government.
Biden currently has at least 253 electoral votes.
The magic number is 270.
If Pennsylvania, a state that Trump won in 2016, and his 20 electoral votes wins, it would exceed that threshold.

US networks have so far said the race is still too close to call.
Biden is also currently leading the way in key states of Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada.
Fox News and the Associated Press have already called Arizona in favor of Biden, but other US outlets have said the race is still too close to call.
Trump has amassed 214 electoral votes so far, and his path to victory is narrowing.
The Republican incumbent has made unsubstantiated claims of massive voter fraud.
