The case of three police officers arrested for the murder of a teenager with Down syndrome in Eldorado Park was postponed until December 8.

The officers were scheduled to appear before Protea Magistrates Court on Friday to face a series of charges.

A third suspect in the case, Voster Netshiongolo, was arrested on September 1 for murder as an accessory to the act, thwarting the ends of justice and being in possession of prohibited ammunition.

Suspects one and two, Simon “Scorpion” Ndyalvane and Caylene Whiteboy, were arrested on August 28. They are being charged with murder, firing a firearm in public, possessing ammunition and defeating the administration of justice.

The suspects have been in police custody since September. All three are charged with shooting and killing 16-year-old Nathaniel Julies on the night of August 26.

The murder sparked intense social unrest in Eldorado Park, and residents called for a full search by police in the area. Stun grenades and rubber bullets had to be used to disperse angry crowds.

Julies, affectionately known as “Lokkie”, was in the junior class at Don Mattera School.

His mother, Bridget Harris, described him as a “wonderful boy” at his funeral at Mount Carmel Ministries in September.

It is alleged that the police shot and killed Julies, who had run to hide behind a vehicle near her home so that other children would not steal her cookies.

His family told the media that after his shooting, the police left him at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital without the family present, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
