JOHANNESBURG – In a historic first, the University of South Africa (Unisa) has appointed a woman as its director and rector.

Professor Puleng LenkaBula will take over in the new year.

She is currently vice-rector for institutional change, student affairs and community participation at the Universidad del Estado Libre.

Unisa said his appointment showed the council’s commitment to transformation and ensured that the university’s workforce reflected the demographics of South Africa.
